My Turn | Scrap The Girls

Hi Everyone! It's that time of the month when those of us on the Scrap The Girls DT get to share the brand new challenge board. This month it's a pretty sweet Colour challenge. Here's a look at the board..

Soft and subtle mix of blue & green, even though some say they should never been seen. However this mix of hues work so well together, especially mixed with white. Plenty of white..

I knew exactly which photo I was turning too once I saw the colours to use. This photo has been scrapped before, however I was unhappy with the end result. Much more happy with how this looks. I chose a mix of pattern papers from my rainbow stash, and backed multiple different sized Camera cut files from Cocoa Vanilla Studio. I placed them along the page in a diagonal design with the photo towards the middle. I also added a few cut butterflies that were left over from a recent layout made for The Cut Shoppe. I felt these were a good finishing touch that would tie all the elements together

I'd chosen the camera design to tie in with the accidental Selfie photo, and the butterflies to represent the nature element thats also shown in the photo. All of which made for a pretty layout of my girl.

Here's some close ups..

I kept the embellishments to a bare minimum as I felt the page itself was already quite busy with cameras and butterflies. I've mainly used enamel dots and the off cuts of hearts from the cameras around the page, with the addition of the cute bow clip and paper flowers from D-lish Scraps.

The title is made from puffy alpha stickers that can also be found in the D-lish Scraps store.

Well thats all form me today, I hope this has inspired you in some way. Be sure to share your creations with us at Scrap The Girls, you never know when you might win something!

Until Next Time, Happy Scrapping!

Life Zesters March Challenge

Hello again!!
Im back this to share the new Life Zesters Challenge

This month we have a colour challenge.. Its all about bright Pink, blue & Yellow

Ive recently mixed all of my Project Life kits together and sorted them into colours. Perfect timing for a colour challenge, as it made it easier to select cards that blended together well.

I will let the photos do the rest of the talking, as this post has quite a few of them :)

Ive layered up tags, stickers, threads and embellishments that compliment the Colour palette

with the addition of some stamping and wood veneer

Thanks for dropping by, be sure to check out the other team members creations on the Life Zesters Blog. And share your creations with us when you can :)

Scrappy Canary July Cyber Crop

Good morning fellow scrappers!!
A few months back.. July to be exact The Scrappy Canary had an awesome Cyber crop!
I thought I should finally share my creations
(yes its been that long since this post has been sitting in draft form so hopefully I can remember what each challenge was lol)
As there are a few I won't go through them all in detail, if you want to clarify anything please do so in the comments :)

Challenge #1 was a sketch, set by Manda
I flipped it to the side and came up with this using some left over embellishments from a previous 'Polly Scrap Kits' Embellishment kit
Challenge #2 - Kate's Colour Challenge
I stuck with mainly blues and yellow, with a pop of green at the bottom of the photo.
Using a recycled background that I didnt think would work for anything.

Challenge #3 - Step outside your comfort zone - set by Lauren
This was lots of fun! I scrap lifted a layout made by Paige Evans for Studio Calico for this one.
Lots of strips of patterned paper all weaved together then sewed to the page. So much fun!

Challenge #4 - Linda's Tic Tac Toe..
I went a little crazy with this one, ticking off each and every single box!
It did WIN me a prize pack WOO HOO!!

Challenge #5 - Ruth's Mood Board challenge
This one came straight to me the minute I saw those ruffles!
I had a ruffled paper from a previous Dear Lizzy collection that I sprayed with a tie dye spray mist. It went a perfect shade of mint. I wanted to keep it simple with just a couple of extra layers under the photo and a splattering of matching sequins and ombre alpha thickers

Last up is
Challenge #6 - Carol's journalling challenge
This was a tricky layout! The lyrics came easy, You've got the love is one of my most favourite songs. I sketched them onto my page using my silhouette and a silver sketch pen.. The hardest part was finding the right photo to work with the lyrics.. None of my more recent photos seemed to fit 'right' so I went searching back further into photos pre-Leila and I happened to come across just the right one.. Taken by Mum before I was heading out to a work xmas party. Taken at a time when I thought no one was ever going to love me like I had loved them lol If only I knew then what I know now.. That love will find you when the time is right :) sappy sappy sappy
Heres the layout :)
Finished off with some gold glitter heart vellum, part of my favourite doily and minimal embellishing..

Thanks for stopping by xx

September Colour Challenge - Life Paper Scrapbook

Hello!! Its Team A's turn to share their creations for the September Colour Challenge at Life Paper Scrapbook.

This month we were given this colour palette to play with :)

And this is what I came up with (after 2 attempts)

Ive used some new and old products for this layout. I met a lovely friend while at a recent retreat I helped to organised and she was kind enough to share some of the new Finley collection from Glitz Design with me. The colours were perfect! Ive also used a piece of my favourite vellum from Dear Lizzy, although using the black cardstock behind doesn't show it off very well.

Heres a close up of a super cute Sequin bow that I purchased from D-Lish Scraps. These bows are super cute and are the perfect size embellishment for scrapping pages and even Project Life

I added a few wood veneer stars on top of the layers of patterned papers. YUM!

I hope you have drawn some inspiration from my layout :)

As per usual we have an awesome prize up for grabs for the winner of this months challenge. Head over to the Life Paper Scrapbook Blog to see all the details, check out the other design team layouts and load up your creations to win.

Until next time
Happy Scrapping!!

August Colour Challenge - Life Paper Scrapbook

Its that time of month again! Time for another Life Paper Scrapbook Challenge!!
This week its the August Colour Challenge, and below is the colour palette to follow
These colours were so out of my normal scrapping range that I had no idea if I would be able to work with them. That was until I got my hands on some arty supplies (gesso & gelatos)

I started with a white cardstock base, a Heidi Swapp 12x12" mask, a tub of gesso and 5 gelato sticks and got my craft on! This was my first time using both gesso and gelatos so it is a bit of a mess! lol but I love it

I didn't take many photos of the process, but I will make another page soon and give a detailed explanation of how I made it.

Using the mask and gesso I made my own 'resist' background. Once that was dry I coloured over random hearts which looked hideous! I ended up smearing the colours across the page with a sponge. Some hearts stayed coloured, some cleaned right off, but its all a new learning experience for me and was a lot of fun!

I then raided my stash to see what I had to complement the background... That was tricky! I found a few papers in my 6x6 paper pad stash. The "smile" strip was from the top of one of them. I layered these up with foam tape on top of some Dear Lizzy crepe ruffle paper from the Neapolitan collection. I added some of my favourite textured mesh ribbon and a Flair from A Piece of Cake Designs

And this is how it all came together. I didn't add anymore to the title as I felt it didn't need anything more than the 'smile' strip, plus I couldn't decide on the right wording and didn't want to mess it up.

The white cardstock has warped slightly from the gesso and gelatos as I did use some water to smear the colours across the page. I have adhered the white cardstock to a piece of black cardstock to make it stand out more.

Head on over to the Life Paper Scrapbook blog to check out the other designers work - There are so many awesome layouts from the team this month! And be sure to link up your layouts, there is an awesome Amy Tangerine prize pack up for grabs from American Crafts!

June Colour Challenge - Life Paper Scrapbook

Today Im sharing my layout for the June Colour Challenge over at Life Paper Scrapbook

This was a super rushed layout this month as I was pushing for time to get it ready!
Also super crappy photos due to such crappy weather (excuses excuses hehe)

This was the colour palette we had to follow
I found it quite tricky to match exact colours as my stash is very limited. Since completing the layout, I have found other items I could have used instead  (always the way lol)

This is what I came up with
Ive used papers from the Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm range, plus American Craft thickers - no idea on the name as they were loose in a basket. The doily was given to me awhile back in a swap online. the other embellishments were from the Lucky Charm coloured chipboard thickers pack.

And a close up of the layers and distressed edges.
I think this is my go to technique when making layouts, Love a nice roughed up edge.

Theres a super cool prize pack up for grabs for the winner of this challenge.. Details over on the LPS Blog post. Hope you can join us this month.

May Colour Challenge - Life Paper Scrapbook

Today Im here to share the layout I made for the May Colour Challenge for Life Paper Scrapbook.

This is the colour combo to play with this month YUM YUM would love a Macaron right now!

Normally I would create a Project Life layout for this, however I was so excited when I received the MAY Cake kit from A Piece of Cake Designs (now sold out) that I knew I wanted to make a layout instead. The colours are perfect! Especially the Heidi Swapp tags that were in mine.

So this is what I came up with

I had the layout pictured as I was pulling out the kit ingredients and I assembled half of the page before I had even chosen the photo I was going to use.

My recipe is as follows
- I started with a piece of Kraft cardstock for the base, and splattered it with Mint Green HS Color Shine
- Next I trimmed down the vellum to 8x8inch. Scrunched it up then slightly flattened it out so that it sat out from the page.
- Then I cut off a strip of the yellow sunburst paper 'Serendipity - New Day' to approx 2"x11" and roughed up the edges with a pair of scissors.
- Next I sprayed one of the Heidi Swapp tags with the Mint Green Color Shine and left it to dry while I roughed up the edges of the 'Beautiful' banner card with scissors. Then cut both tags in half to use in 2 places on the layout
- Once I finally decided which photos I wanted to use, I printed them out 3x5" size and sanded the edges to give them a rough white border
- Then I took some of the white cardstock and cut it slightly larger than the 2 photos I had and dabbed lightly all over it with my pink Hero Arts ink pad, then adhered the photos to the top so that part of the cardstock was showing below.
- This is when I eventually started sticking things down properly with tape and staples - LOVE my tiny attacher!
- Scattered a few pink sequins around the page, then glued them down once I was happy with their placement

- Next I added the Bling.. A Cherry barcode flair from the April release at A Piece of Cake Designs,  plus a flower that was in the May cake kit. I broke the yellow bead off from the middle of the flower and glued it back down with a sequin to make it sparkle a little more.
- I cut a banner from the white glitter tape and stuck it above the flair.
- Then I wound some of the pink twine from the kit around the flair and flower, then under the beautiful tag and over to the other side of the page with a few loops, and adhered to page with glue and tiny attacher.
- Last of all I cut up some left over white cardstock into thin strips to write my journalling on and attached them with foam tape.
- and I added the kraft banner with heart cut out onto the right hand side of the photos, and the birdie paper clip onto the top right of the photos.

I hope this has inspired you to get creative!
